We offer a variety of activities to engage the diverse interests of our community without even leaving Hale House. Residents can stay active with Yoga and Tai Chi and stay fit with our Mobility strengthening class. There are frequent music events: Berklee School of Music partners with us year round in an interactive musical program, and master students from the world renowned New England Conservatory and the Boston Conservatory regularly perform right in our living room. Those who enjoy flowers can garden in our award-winning courtyard or arrange fresh flowers to decorate our beautiful house. Lively discussions on history, current events and other topics are organized with guests from local universities. Student volunteers offer computer coaching to help learn new internet and program skills. And our Theater group provides a vibrant outlet for culture and socializing.
Residents of Hale House are also able to enjoy the activities that only Boston can offer. Whether it is taking a stroll through Boston Common, watching the swan boats and admiring the foliage in the historic Boston Public Garden, people-watching on the Commonwealth Avenue Mall, walking along trendy Newbury Street, or visiting the Boston Public Library, there are plenty of attractions nearby for everyone to enjoy, along with dozens of coffee shops and restaurants within a short distance. Hale House sponsors field trips to the movies, to musical theater productions, to several of Boston’s fine museums or a fun day out bowling. We bring in special presentations such as an exotic animal “Creature Teacher”, a Magician and other entertainment. And there are special celebrations throughout the year to mark holidays and the passing seasons, including relaxing summer BBQs in our backyard, hosted visits to a lovely ocean-side North Shore home, festive holiday dinners and treats, and the elegant Hale House winter reception.
We always welcome volunteers to accompany us for a day-trip or to lead an in-house activity. If you would like to learn more about our activities department, contact Catherine Logan at clogan@halebarnard or 617- 536-3726 ext 122
